BOULDER HVAC {EFFICIENT BOILER DESIGN}

As the premier Boulder HVAC company, a lot of businesses turn to us to seek solutions to help increase the efficiency of their equipment. Once such company was multi-family condo complex located in Boulder, CO. This complex has multiple buildings with multiple boiler rooms. Over the years, we have replaced a lot of the equipment in those rooms. Each boiler room has a domestic water heating system and a space heating system that heats the water that is distributed throughout the buildings.

When Timberline did each project for the various boiler rooms, we came up with a design where each boiler both the domestic side and the heating side of the system had redundancy. Timberline installed two heating boilers, and then we provided domestic hot water through an indirect water heater (a storage tank with a coil in it). Having two boilers meant that if one failed, we would still have domestic hot water and heating. This gave our customer a level redundancy. By installing the two boiler design, we were able to insure that their entire system was not disabled when something went awry. We also increased efficiency for our client. Prior to us installing new equipment. their boilers were old cast iron sectional boilers that were 70% efficient. We installed a Lochinvar boiler set that is 95% efficient. The standby loss is also much lower than cast iron sectional atmospheric boiler. We also insulate our piping jobs with one inch fiberglass craft paper backed insulation that is fully sealed. This type of insulation contains the heat in the pipes so the heat doesn’t dissipate into the room. This is has resulted in them saving around 30% on their fuel bill.

We have worked on several boiler rooms with our customer, and they are very happy with the results.
